In the Refuge of His Wings

Have you ever been so tired of "the battle" you just wanted to curl up in a ball under the covers and sing "make the world go away"!? It's a funny image if you've never been there - but I suspect there are many more people nodding their heads in recognition than laughing at this question. The truth is this world is not battle free and everyone gets tired. but we have a shelter greater than any danger, and resources far above our own efforts.

One devotional I read earlier this morning pointed out that when chicks hide under their mother's wings, they are not just "sheltered", they are completely hidden. Any danger must come to the mother first before it can get to the chicks.

What a great representation of the Gospel! No wonder David chose this representation as he praised God while hiding in the cave from King Saul!

Psalm 57 ends with "Be exalted o God above the heavens; let Your glory be over all the earth!" in verse 11, but verse 4 shows this praise was coming from a heart in danger: "I am in the midst of lions; I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts - men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords." He begins in fear of real danger, but immediately turns to God from verse 1: "Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in You I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until the disaster is passed." He begins and ends his psalm of imminent danger in confidence of God's protection and care!

Lord, Help me seek Your refuge from the beginning of any trouble, and praise you, no matter what circumstances I find myself in throughout my day. Help me look back over every situation You've already gotten me through and say with David: : "My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; i will sing and make music." verse 7. Praising God and hiding completely under His sheltering wings is a much better protection than a blanket pulled over my head
